Dr. Z's Adult Books
I wrote my first novel in the early years of the 21st century. I had a big plan, a motive if you will, of where the story would go, and what I would accomplish. I took on the issue of all the unsolved, or rather, the unresolved, deaths that take place each year in this country. The probable murders that simply go under the radar because the subject is derelict, or old and infamous, a minority, or simply poor and unworthy of the great effort and expense of a continuing investigation. But that is an uninteresting story, I know because the interest in my book was nil.
Those that did read my book always said something along the lines of, “why don’t you separate some as short stories.” Being naïve as I am, I took that to mean that the stories were good but the book was not. Certainly, my family and friends wouldn’t mislead me and show interest in the stories if they weren’t worth reading. My dear wife simply said, Bill, that’s foolish. My daughter was very honest and told me to go back to painting and leave the writing to professionals. My dear friend and editor would put it more bluntly, he just quit talking to me. Yet, each in their way encouraged me. Perhaps they were correct, I began to think, and maybe the stories are good, but the overall plot, the underlying thesis, is too complicated to hold the reader’s interest. I think most readers forget what the intent was by the time they read one or two chapters.
Then there was the personal part. I write my stories in the first person and that startles the readers, at least my readers, as they all know me. They can’t put aside that I am talking about a hypothetical person, a figment of my imagination. All they see is their husband, or father, or friend, laying out his life’s history of killing people. They never had that problem with my paintings, but words, they are different. They think I am telling the truth! So, this is my salvation: my way of resurrecting an ambition to tell my stories, my way of putting my imagination into words rather than images, and, hopefully, a way to get someone to read them!
Be forwarned, this book contains some nasty passages and is x-rated for a reason. If you embarrass or insult easily, don't read this book.
I will be adding other writings in this area from time to time. I am presently working on a professional paper concerning my theory of Circumstantialism which if I publish, I will add to this site. Other works include a paper on Aesthetics, and a collection of poetry.
